Barry Ferguson has suggested in The Daily Record that Rangers should sign Ryan Kent on a permanent contract from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Kent joined Rangers on a season-long loan deal Premier League club Liverpool in the summer of 2018.

The 22-year-old winger has been a huge success at Ibrox and has established himself as an important player in manager Steven Gerrard’s team.

According to WhoScored, the youngster has made 19 starts and two substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers so far this season, scoring five goals in the process.

Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson has suggested that the Gers should secure the services of Kent on a permanent contract from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

The former Scotland international also believes that striker Jermain Defoe and midfielder Steven Davis will get better next season.

Defoe, 36, joined Rangers on an 18-month loan deal from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, while 34-year-old Davis moved to the Gers on loan from Southampton in January until the end of the season.

Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record: “Then you had Steve Davis and Jermain Defoe brought in as big hitters in January and neither of them have lived up to the billing.

“But I think both of them will look like different players after a full pre-season in Glasgow and I fully expect them to become a major part of the next big step under Gerrard.

“Ryan Kent is another who should stay. If Gerrard can get him for anywhere between three or four million pounds as has been quoted then that looks like smart business to me.

“That kid has proved that he belongs in a Rangers shirt so Gerrard would be buying the tried and tested.”
