Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has backed the pursuit of Lyndon Dykes, telling PLZ Soccer that the Livingston striker would be a ‘good signing’ for Steven Gerrard.
In another world, this Aussie battering ram would already be scoring goals and handing out black eyes in the deep blue of Rangers.
The Glasgow giants were interested in the old-school number nine before signing Florian Kamberi instead during the January transfer window.
But with Kamberi now departing at the end of his short-lived loan spell, it seems that the Scottish Premiership runners-up are back in for a familiar face.
The Mail reported earlier in June that Rangers were battling Old Firm rivals Celtic, not to mention Stoke City, Middlesbrough and Sunderland, for Dykes’s £2 million-rated signature.
And according to former skipper Ferguson, the 6ft 2ins beanpole would bring something a little different to Gerrard’s table.

“Certainly somebody up front who is different from [Alfredo] Morelos and [Jermain] Defoe,” Ferguson says.
“I know Lyndon Dykes has been spoken about the last couple of days and If I am honest I do think he would be a good signing for Rangers.”
Rangers’ interest in the 12-goal frontman should come as no surprise really, given that the man making the decisions at Ibrox raved about his performance during a league clash with Livingston in late-2019.
“Lyndon Dykes is a good player who has given us problems. He is good in the air, good on the floor and physical,” Gerrard told the Scottish Sun.
With Rangers paying the price for the rather predictable, one-dimensional nature of their performances since the turn of the year, Dykes could give Gerrard the ‘Plan B’ he needs.
