Barry Ferguson and Tam McManus have praised Alfredo Morelos for his turnaround in a Rangers shirt this season after previously having ‘question marks’ over him because of his discipline.

Whilst Morelos was still a key man at the top end of the pitch for Steven Gerrard’s side last season, he had a knack of getting sent off and putting his team in a difficult situation.

But during this campaign, he looks like a completely different character as he is now seemingly allowing his football to do the talking, rather than any off-the-ball stuff.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer (02/10/2019), Ferguson thinks that Gerrard may have had a chat with the player, whilst McManus added he was ‘critical’ of him before but praised the striker for now calming himself down.

“The question mark against him was obviously his discipline,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer. “It looks to me that the manager has had a long chat with him. And he looks a different player.

“When he concentrates on doing what he does best, which is rolling defenders and scoring goals, he is a good player. There’s no denying that. You should let your football do the talking and clearly this season that’s what he is doing.”

McManus added: “I think Morelos has been great this season. I have been critical of him in the past. It was his discipline, he was allowing people to wind him up and taking the bait all the time. Now, it seems as though he has calmed himself down. Good player, strong, he rolls people over, he battered the boy for Feyenoord last time. He is capable of doing that.”

The even bigger test for Morelos would be to continue what he has recently been doing and maintain it for the rest of the season.

If he were to do that then Rangers chances of lifting some silverware and potentially stopping nine-in-a-row from occurring would increase.

But for now, he will be concentrating on his next fixture which is a Europa League tie against Young Boys, with Gerrard’s side hoping to make it two wins from two in Europe.
