Barry Ferguson shares what Steven Gerrard will be telling his Rangers players about Celtic’s poor form

Rangers and Celtic will meet for the first Old Firm derby of the Scottish Premiership season at the start of next month.

Barry Ferguson has stated that Steven Gerrard will be urging his Rangers players to ‘forget what’s going on across the road’ and ‘keep winning games’ as Celtic start the season in an indifferent manner.

Whilst Celtic have started the Scottish Premiership campaign in fine fashion, they have been knocked out of the Champions League and they needed extra-time to beat Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup last time out.

In Neil Lennon’s second stint as full-time manager, he has come under stick for Celtic’s performances, as they now turn their attention to Europa League matters on Thursday evening.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer’s official YouTube account, Ferguson stated that Gerrard will be telling his Rangers players to concentrate on themselves as the first Old Firm derby of the season edges ever closer.

“There’s a lot being made of Celtic’s performances,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer. “Yes, they have not been great, but it’s still early doors.

“Back when I was playing when I played at Rangers, we just tried to concern ourselves with how we played and it was just all about winning games. That maybe put a little pressure on your rivals.

“I’m sure that’s the message that Steven Gerrard will be putting to the players. ‘Let’s forget what’s going on across the road, just make sure we go out and keep winning games and playing decent football.”

There are still a few games to be played before Rangers host Celtic at Ibrox on September 1, as both teams will be looking to find some serious rhythm to their play.

The Gers were victorious the last time the duo met at Ibrox, with both Gerrard and Lennon’s side boasting some serious attacking quality heading into next up and coming encounter.
