The former Ibrox captain reckons there’s a big change in Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team.

Former Rangers favourite Barry Ferguson has hailed the change he’s seen in the mentality of Steven Gerrard’s side over the last six months, writing in his weekly Daily Record column.

The Ibrox club continued their fantastic start to the season with a 6-1 thrashing of Hibernian on Sunday.

It was a statement victory in response to Celtic’s big wins in recent matches and demonstrates that the Gers are very much up for the fight this season.

The win comes off the back of a last gasp three points against Kilmarnock last Sunday. That’s a victory that Ferguson believes is the big sign of progress at Ibrox.

Ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record: “I just see a different mindset and that is pleasing. I’m seeing grit and determination in this Rangers side that was missing.

“When I was watching the second half at Rugby Park and Rangers conceded I looked at the body language of the players and spotted a reaction to get a goal and win the game.

“Six months ago if that had gone against Rangers they may have started feeling sorry for themselves.”

Has this Rangers team really changed?

As the weeks go on the evidence mounts up that Ferguson is correct with his most recent assertion.

Ultimately though, it’s a question that can only really be answered with consistent results over a prolonged period.

The Gers managed to dig themselves out of a hole against Kilmarnock and that has to be commended, but those kind of ugly wins need to become common place.

The win away to FC Midtjylland and the demolition of Hibs on Sunday are unarguably brilliant results though and at least show that Rangers have blossomed into an exciting and ruthless outfit on their day.

Gerrard has some talented options available to him now, match-winners in positions up and down the pitch that you’d fancy can get the job done far more often than not.

Impressive displays coming with regularity is now key and will be the true test of their trophy credentials.
