Barry Ferguson told Lanarkshire Live – as per the Record – that Rangers star Alex Lowry can become an Ibrox regular.. The Rangers teen scored his first Premiership goal on Saturday, and Ferguson is excited by Lowry’s talent.
Lowry, 18, has broken into Rangers’ first team this season and with Giovanni van Bronckhorst resting his crucial players ahead of the Europa League final, Lowry has got his chance. He scored in a 3-1 win over Hearts.
Not only that, but Lowry also laid on an assist – in a brilliant display at Ibrox. He is now expected to be on the bench on Wednesday night and while he is unlikely to come on, it will be an incredible experience for him.
That is according to Gers hero Ferguson, who is really excited at the prospect of attacking midfielder Lowry. He is confident that the Scotland Under-19 star has the quality to go on and become an Ibrox regular.
“I’ve seen the young kid play and he has the potential to be a proper Rangers player,” Ferguson said. “Get his head down, work hard and keep his feet on the ground. If he does, Rangers have a real player on their hands.
“He’s got great awareness, he’s got a goal in him and what I really like is that he wants the ball all the time. He’s not scared to take the ball in difficult situations and there’s nothing better than seeing a young boy flourish.”
Ferguson excited by Rangers talent Lowry: Ibrox regular incoming?
It is hard to think of too many Rangers talents that have come into the side from the academy of late. Nathan Patterson is the best example, Glenn Middleton and a couple of others. But Lowry has something different.
He has the ability, only seven games into his senior career, to change a game. To produce match-winning moments. Lowry is deserving of his wonderkid status and it was crucial that he signed a new deal.
Premier League clubs are already becoming to take notice of Lowry and a move down south is likely at some stage in his career. But Rangers have got to keep him for as long as possible, and that contract allows them to do that.
