Barry Ferguson has suggested on PLZ Soccer that Rangers should not pay more than £2 million as transfer fee for Ianis Hagi.

The former Rangers star does not think that the Romania international is worth £5 million.

According to BBC Sport, the Gers are in talks with Genk over a permanent transfer for the 21-year-old.

Hagi, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward, joined Rangers on loan from Genk in the January transfer window until the end of the season.

Het Laatste Nieuws recently reported that Rangers have decided to exercise their option to sign Hagi for €5 million (£4.45 million), with Romanian journalist, Emanuel Rosu, also stating on Twitter that the 21-year-old will be at Ibrox next season (click here to read more on Rangers News).

Ferguson said about Hagi on PLZ Soccer, as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “I don’t think it is going to be anywhere near £5million. I would probably look nearer the £2m or just below that.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Hagi made six starts and one substitute appearance in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers this season, scoring one goal in the process.

The Romania international also scored two goals and provided one assist in three Europa League matches, and played twice in the Scottish Cup for the Gers this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Meanwhile, former Hibernian and Scotland international midfielder Michael Stewart has said that Rangers should look at signing a new central defender this summer.

Stewart wrote in The Scottish Sun: “When you look for an obvious weak link there isn’t one, apart from maybe in the centre of defence.

“Is that such a weakness that they are gifting goals or losing points on a weekly basis? No.

“That’s because Allan McGregor has done such a good job since his return to the club. But a really commanding centre-half would make a big, big difference to them.”
