Barry Ferguson has encouraged youngster Kai Kennedy to stay at Rangers.
According to The Scottish Sun, the 18-year-old has been told that he can leave the Gers.
It looks like the Auchenhowie product – who was pulled out of Steven Gerrard’s senior training last week – looks set to leave Rangers.
Kennedy’s representatives reportedly asked for a ‘pay package’ that was significantly higher than what the light Blues wanted to pay.
And Ferguson has slammed his advisors, saying that such a player with ‘huge potential’ should overlook monetary gain at this point in his career and focus on football.
He told PLZ Soccer: “A lot of these young players have advisors who maybe try and push them a bit too quickly. I like young players to stay about and fight for a place.
“There’s no doubt the young kid has huge potential so I would like him to stay about. At this stage in his career it’s not about money.
“We’ve seen it with various young players moving far too quick for my liking, I’d like to see him stay for a while longer.”
Is Ferguson right? Of course he is. Gerrard hasn’t won a trophy at Rangers yet, but as a coach he has taken some players to the next level.
And in terms of his burgeoning career, Kennedy, a winger, might be better off hanging around and learning under Gerrard.
He made his senior debut in a Scottish Cup win over Stranraer toward the start of the year, but that looks like it could be his first and last taste of first-team action for the Glasgow giants.
