Barry Ferguson reacts as Ovie Ejaria talks up Rangers’ title hopes

Glasgow Rangers could go to the top of the Scottish Premiership if the Ibrox side win on Sunday.

Barry Ferguson has told PLZ Soccer that he was not particularly pleased when he heard Ovie Ejaria talk up Rangers’ title hopes following the Gers’ victory at the weekend.

In comments reported by the Daily Mail, Ejaria agreed that signing Liverpool teammate Dominic Solanke – who has been linked with an Ibrox loan switch in January – would improve the Gers’ title hopes.

Steven Gerrard’s side could go to the top of the table this weekend should they win away at Hearts. But while victory may tempt more Rangers fans to dream of this year being the season they end their wait for a title win, Ferguson admitted that he would rather not hear the players discussing the team’s title chances publicly.

“I would rather players keep it inside the dressing room. It’s good having the confidence, but I would rather they just say things like: ‘we’ll take it one game at a time’. But I don’t like title talk coming out of the dressing room,” he told PLZ Soccer.

In fairness to Ejaria, he was responding to a question about Rangers’ title chances, and the midfielder hardly went over the top with his answer.

But Ferguson’s point is perhaps still valid. The Gers are going to be underdogs virtually until the moment that it is mathematically impossible for Celtic to win the title, so not getting carried away could be beneficial with their current form hinting that we may now have a genuine title race to look forward to this term.
