Allan McGregor of Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers challenges Scottish Premiership rival Craig Gordon of Celtic for his country’s number one shirt.
Barry Ferguson has told The Record that Rangers’ goalkeeper Allan McGregor is ‘on a different planet’ and believes that he is better than Celtic’s Craig Gordon.
Scotland boss Alex McLeish must choose between both Rangers and Celtic stars this evening for the UEFA Nations League trip to Albania.
McGregor has been a revelation since re-signing for the Gers, helping Steven Gerrard’s side into the Europa League.
Likewise, Gordon, who earns £8,000 per week at Parkhead [Daily Star] has had an excellent season for the Hoops and looks a lot less prone to errors than he has looked in recent years.
But if it’s a choice between the Rangers keeper and Celtic’s number one, Blues legend Ferguson fancies McGregor every time.
He told The Record: “In goals it has to be Allan McGregor. His glove rival Craig Gordon has done nothing wrong, he’s a top keeper, but Allan is on a different planet.
“When he rejoined Rangers I said he’d be their best signing because he’s worth 12-15 points a season. He is Rangers’ most influential player by far, an exceptional keeper and a born winner.”
In truth, there is very little between the Old Firm pair, but Gordon has been something of a liability at international level in recent years, hence why McLeish might well favour the Rangers man.
Brendan Rodgers’s side have conceded six goals in the Premiership this season, five less than Steven Gerrard’s Gers.
