Barry Ferguson has told BBC Sport that Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha made a “massive mistake” in leaving Kenny Miller out of the defeat by Celtic.

Rangers slipped eight points behind their Old Firm rivals by losing 2-0 at Ibrox last weekend.

It was very much an insipid performance from a Gers side who looked to be lacking a bit of passion, it must be said.

The veteran hitman, 37, is yet to score from any of his seven Premiership appearances this season and Caixinha brought him on with 35 minutes left.

However, Rangers legend Ferguson believes that the Portuguese manager was wrong with his “strange” decision to omit him from the first XI.

“Kenny Miller knows what it’s all about,” he told BBC Sport.

“He knows what’s needed to play against Celtic. It was a massive mistake to leave him out.

“Kenny’s a big character, he speaks his mind, he’s a passionate guy, but I find it strange that he’s left out.”

The Ibrox side will look to bounce back by beating Hamilton Academical tonight, though they will play on an artificial pitch.

Rangers are fifth in the Premiership table and anything but a victory will see pressure mount on Caixinha.
