Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney is a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium, but the Gunners are now being warned about his future.

Former Scotland and Rangers ace Barry Ferguson has suggested to Go Radio that Manchester City will be pursuing Tierney if he continues to shine.

Ferguson feels that Tierney has really kicked on since leaving Celtic in 2019, and predicts that City will be looking at him if Arsenal don’t give him a new deal.

“If I’m Arsenal I’m getting him and tying him down,” said Ferguson. “Because if I’m a Manchester City or something, I’m looking at a player like Kieran Tierney – that’s how good I think he is. I’ll be honest with you, I just love everything about Kieran Tierney.

“I think he’s gone up a couple of levels since he’s made the move. I always thought he was a very good player at Celtic, there was no doubt that he was going to move to the Premier League, but he’s gone down to Arsenal and gone up a couple of levels.”

“As I mentioned before, Arsenal will need to think about getting him tied down on a new contract or the top clubs in England – now, Arsenal are a top club there’s no doubt about it but I’m talking Man City, Man United, or even the top clubs in Europe – if he continues to play like that they’ll be looking at him, believe me when I say that,” he added.

Tierney, 23, has hit two goals and four assists in 32 games for Arsenal, and his versatility makes him hugely appealing to any potential suitor.

Left back, left wing back or left-sided centre back, Tierney performs at such a high level consistently, whilst his passion and attitude has made him a favourite with Gunners fans.

City do need a left back; Benjamin Mendy has dipped massively and Tierney is a real step up on Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The likes of Samir Nasri, Kolo Toure, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy all won silverware after leaving Arsenal for City,

Mikel Arteta won’t want to lose Tierney to his former mentor in Pep Guardiola, but there is some merit to Ferguson’s suggestion that Tierney would be ideal for City.
