Glenn Middleton, who joined Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers in January, is praised highly by former Gers star Barry Ferguson.
Ferguson, who started his professional club football career at Rangers and had two separate spells at Ibrox, seems to rate Middleton highly.
The 18-year-old winger made his competitive debut for Rangers against FK Shkupi in the first leg of the Europa League first round qualifier on Thursday evening.
The Scotland Under-21 international did not start the match, but the former Norwich City prospect came on as a substitute in the 79th minute.
Middleton has been on the books of Rangers since January 2018 when he moved from Norwich in the Championship in England.
Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson has given his take on Middleton in The Daily Record, and has also revealed what he has heard about the teenager – it will excite the Ibrox faithful.
Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record: “Another youngster who is exciting the fans is Glenn Middleton and while it’s early doors he looks like he can light up a game.
“I looked up his history and having been let go by Norwich he will be eager to prove himself. From what I’m hearing coming out of Rangers he has a bright future ahead.
“But he’s another who needs to be protected and hopefully in time he can become a really good player.
“After the Bury game Shkupi was his first competitive appearance off the bench and he looked bright so it will good to see how he progresses.”
Exciting future ahead
Middleton is a very talented and promising young winger, but Ranges need to be careful and patient with him.
The teenager is still developing and progressing, and new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will have to manage him properly.
