Ferguson, who had two different spells at Rangers, played with McGregor at Ibrox.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper returned to Rangers in the summer transfer window for his second spell at Ibrox.
McGregor has been playing well for Steven Gerrard’s side so far this season and has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Gers.
Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson has spoken highly of McGregor.
Ferguson wrote about McGregor in The Daily Record: “My old team-mate has been scary since he returned to Ibrox and performed to a level nobody at Rangers has reached for a long time.
“From the word go he’s been phenomenal and I said at the outset he would be the most important signing because he’ll win up to 15 points a league season.”
“There is no doubt he could have played with the biggest clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool,” added Ferguson. “But sometimes you need a bit of luck in football and maybe that break didn’t come.”
Going strong
Rangers are going strong in the Scottish Premiership as well as in the Europa League this season.
The Gers could well find themselves in the knockout rounds of the Europa League.
The Glasgow giants are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 27 points from 13 matches.
Rangers, who are just two points behind leaders and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic, will take on Heart of Midlothian away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
