Rangers have already completed seven summer signings under Steven Gerrard.
Rangers icon Barry Ferguson has told the Sunday Post that he has been impressed by his old’s side board after backing Steven Gerrard this summer – but reckons the side are still missing a crucial ingredient.
Gerrard, 38, has not messed about since moving to Ibrox with assistant Gary McAllister, bringing in seven new players and shaking up the Rangers defence.
Goalkeeper Allan McGregor has rejoined the club, six years after leaving in 2012. Defenders Connor Goldson, Nikkola Katic and Jon Flanagan, as well as midfielders Jamie Murphy, Ovie Ejaria and Scott Arfield have all signed on.

Gerrard has been just as ruthless with the exit door, offloading Jason Holt, Joe Dodoo, Michael O’Halloran and loanees Jason Cummings and Russell Martin. Ferguson has praised the board, but wants a leader in midfield.
“Good players cost money in a transfer fee or wages. So credit to the Board because they’ve backed the manager so far,” Ferguson said. “But he wouldn’t have taken the job if that wasn’t going to be the case.
“I still think they need a top midfielder. But that’s going to cost money and whether they can do it or not is another thing. They need a proper leader in the middle of the park, and there’s no one better to identify that than Steven Gerrard.”
Rangers boast a whole clutch of central midfield talent, with Ejaria and Arfield joining Jordan Rossiter, Graham Dorrans, Andy Halliday, Greg Docherty, Ross McCrorie and Ryan Jack.
Rangers begin their season with a pre-season friendly against Bury on Friday, before facing Macedonian outfit FK Shkupi on July 12 in the first round of Europa League qualifying.
