Barry Ferguson has stated that James Forrest’s high level of ‘consistent performances’ for Celtic have ‘jumped out’ to him during these past two to three years.

The former Scottish Premiership player also admitted that it’s ‘great news’ for Celtic fans that Forrest has committed his long-term future to the club.

Forrest recently extended his stay at Parkhead to 2023, as he made it clear that he is enjoying life at the Scottish Premiership champions, as reported by BBC Sport.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer (30/10/19), Ferguson was full of praise for Forrest as he reacted to him signing a new deal with his club.

“That’s the thing that has jumped out to me during these last two or three years, his level of consistent performances have been really high,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer. “It’s great news for the Celtic fans.

“Another thing as well, not just his good wing play, he is starting to put the ball into the back of the net as well, which makes a massive difference. He is one of the key players for Celtic going forward.”

After penning down that new contract, Forrest celebrated that deal in a brilliant fashion, as he helped Neil Lennon’s side to a 2-0 win over St Mirren on Wednesday night.

Mohamed Elyounoussi opened the scoring in the second half for the current leaders, with Forrest also getting on the scoresheet in what has been a brilliant week for him.

He will be hoping to continue that good feeling when Celtic take on struggling Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Saturday.
