Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson was impressed with Celtic defender Kieran Tierney’s performance for Scotland against the Netherlands on Thursday.

Tierney featured for Scotland in the friendly international match against the Netherlands on Thursday evening.
The Celtic defender is a left-back by trade, but at the Pittodrie Stadium, the 20-year-old was deployed as a centre-back.
The youngster gave a good account of himself in that position, and former Rangers and Scotland international midfielder Ferguson was impressed with the Celtic star.

“McGinn was Scotland’s best player against Holland and McGregor did well in flashes in what is a difficult position behind the striker,” Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record.
“By highlighting those two I’m maybe being a bit unfair on Kieran Tierney who was yet again outstanding on a proud night when he captained Scotland for the first time.
“But that says more about him because we have just come to expect that kind of high-level performance.
“Again he wasn’t playing in his left-back position – Malky Mackay played him at centre-back – but I get the feeling you could play him anywhere.
“Honestly, you could stick him on the right wing, in central midfield or at centre forward and he’d just get on with it.”

Tierney is one of the best young defenders in Europe, and his performances in the Champions League this season suggest that he is good enough to compete at the very highest level.
Celtic are going strong in the Scottish Premiership at the moment and are set to win the league title yet again this season.
Brendan Rodgers’s side could also drop to the Europa League, with their chances of progressing to the last-16 stage of the Champions League now gone.
