Rangers are reportedly keen to lure Jake Hastie to Ibrox.

Blackpool manager Barry Ferguson looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Blackpool and Charlton Athletic at Bloomfield Road on May 03, 2014 in Blackpool, England.

Rangers hero Barry Ferguson has told PLZ Soccer that he thinks Motherwell winger Jake Hastie may be better off snubbing a move to Ibrox.

The Gers have already got one winger coming in at the end of the season, with Jordan Jones of Kilmarnock signing a pre-contract agreement back in January.

However, Steven Gerrard appears to be keen on other options out wide, despite having Eros Grezda, Jamie Murphy, Daniel Candeias and Glenn Middleton at his disposal, whilst a permanent deal for Ryan Kent will surely be pursued.

Last week though, The Scottish Sun reported that Rangers are closing in on a pre-contract agreement for Motherwell wide man Hastie, with a four-year deal allegedly in the pipeline.

Hastie, 19, has come up through the Motherwell youth ranks, and spent the first half of the season out on loan at Alloa Athletic, where he scored three times in 23 games.

Since returning to Fir Park in January though, Hastie has become a star in the Scottish Premiership, hitting five goals in his last six outings for Motherwell whilst starring with his pace and left foot.

No deal has been confirmed yet, but with Hastie allegedly Ibrox-bound, ex-Rangers captain Ferguson has offered his take, admitting that he thinks the winger has a lot of quality and has impressed him so far.

However, Ferguson feels that Hastie may be better off continuing his development with regular first-team football at Motherwell rather than heading to Rangers just months after being at Alloa, warning him about potentially being caught in the shuffle at Ibrox.

“This is his first real season, he was out on loan at Alloa, done pretty well and he’s come back to Motherwell, he’s certainly impressed me,” said Ferguson. “For me, I think it would be better if he gets a number of games under his belt, but listen when a team like Rangers come calling, obviously he is going to be interested.”

“Is he going to go to Rangers and play? You don’t know, you can never tell. I just think it’s important for young players to get a certain amount of games under their belt, getting that experience and then someday, he will get his big move because he’s certainly got a lot of quality,” he added.
