Celtic earned their place in the Scottish League Cup final, while Rangers were dumped out by Aberdeen.
Barry Ferguson has told PLZ Soccer that Celtic’s 3-0 Scottish League Cup semi-final win over Hearts just shows that Brendan Rodgers’ side are too strong domestically – which is worrying for Rangers’ chances of silverware.
Celtic produced a second-half masterclass to down Hearts at Murrayfield on Sunday afternoon, with goals coming from Scott Sinclair, James Forrest and Ryan Christie.
They booked their place in the final and the chance to win a seventh consecutive trophy under Rodgers, and the start of what could be a treble treble. Rangers, meanwhile, were beaten by Aberdeen in the other semi-final.
Former Rangers captain Ferguson believes Celtic are simply too strong when it comes to domestic football, belittling Rangers’ chances of earning some silverware this season.
“Domestically, Celtic are too strong,” Ferguson said. “When Sinclair scored the penalty, they looked a proper team again. They’ve shown in the league and St. Johnstone and Hibernian that they’re starting to find a bit of form again.
“In the first half, they weren’t that great but when they scored that goal, there was only going to be one winner. They took control and it could’ve been four or five had it not been for the goalkeeper.”
Rangers missed strikers Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty on Sunday, as Umar Sadiq failed to provide the cutting edge up front for the Gers against Derek McInnes’ Dons. Ferguson’s nephew, Lewis, scored the only goal of the game.
The Gers will be forced to bounce back quickly as they take on Steve Clarke’s impressive Kilmarnock on Wednesday night at Ibrox in the league, while Celtic travel to Dundee.
