Gareth McAuley is nearing a return for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers.

Barry Ferguson has admitted to PLZ Soccer that he had forgotten about Rangers’ capture of Gareth McAuley until this week.
Rangers snapped up the 38-year-old defender on a free contract during the summer, following his release from West Bromwich Albion.
But McAuley, who has 79 caps for Northern Ireland, is still waiting for his Gers debut after enduring an injury-hit start to the campaign.
That being said, the big centre-back, who came through a reserve game against Brentford B on Sunday, is nearing a comeback, according to Blues’ first-team coach Michael Beale [Belfast Telegraph].
And Ibrox legend Ferguson told PLZ Soccer that he had completely forgotten about his arrival in the first place.
“I actually forgot they signed Gareth McAuley until I saw the news [he played for the reserves] today. He is a very experienced player, a very good player at that. So hopefully that is another option for the manager.”
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will soon have McAuley, Joe Worrall, Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic as central defensive options.
Goldson is almost guaranteed to keep his place, given that he’s been a rock all season long, but the same can’t be said for Katic and certainly not Worrall, who is on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest.
The Gers visit Russia this week in a big Europa League test with Spartak Moscow, but that one likely comes too soon for McAuley.
