Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are gearing up for the January transfer window.

Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and St Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium on December 16, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Barry Ferguson has told Betsafe he is “amazed” that Rangers gave Graeme Murty the manager’s role until the end of the season and believes that such a decision will have negative implications on their transfer business next month.

The Ibrox club officially announced earlier this month that Murty would be in charge until the end of the season following their failure to appoint a successor to Pedro Caixinha in Glasgow.

In doing so, Rangers gave the 43-year-old full control over the Gers’ January transfer business, with Director of Football Mark Allen previously being in charge of that aspect.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Murty revealed on Friday that he hopes to have a big chunk of his business concluded by January 6 when Rangers jet off to Florida for the mid-season break.

But club legend Ferguson suggests that not many players will make a long-term commitment in joining the Gers so long as there is uncertainty regarding the manager.

He told Betsafe: “They have made it clear that Murty will pick the players. But what amazes me that he’s got the job until the end of the season.

“If you are going to sign players then they are come here on long term contracts.

“And so the only way I see Rangers signing players is if they are getting them on loan, which isn’t great going forward and that’s the way it is at Rangers, which is sad.”
