Celtic’s Ryan Christie started off his season in a stunning fashion over the weekend.

Barry Ferguson has admitted that he got it wrong in regards to Ryan Christie being able to make a name for himself at Celtic as he now stated that he is ‘oozing quality’.

The 24-year-old, who suffered a serious head injury towards the back end of the last campaign, scored a hat-trick during the Bhoys 7-0 win against St Johnstone on Saturday.

From Christie’s perspective, and from Celtic’s perspective, it was a serious statement of intent as the Scottish Premiership champion aim to defend their title.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, as posted on their official YouTube account, former Premiership midfielder Ferguson admitted that he didn’t think Christie was going to cut it at Parkhead during the early part of his career.

“He carried on the form he had last season, obviously before that injury, I thought he was excellent, ” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer. “He was one of Celtic’s main players. The game on Saturday, he ran the show from start to finish. The guys oozing quality just now.

“He’s a confident young guy. When Celtic first signed him, did I think he would have played there, I’ll be honest, no I didn’t. Fair play to the kid, he went away and spent a time on-loan at Aberdeen. That was a make or break for him. He did excellent at Aberdeen.

“Then he came back to Celtic and if you were to ask me I would say he’s one of the first names on the teamsheet. Quality player and he’s getting better and better.”

If Christie can get a full season under his belt and remain injury free then he could cause some serious damage to opponents this season.

He will be backing himself to get into double figures in terms of goals, and perhaps even assists, and if he can do that then it’ll bode well for Neil Lennon’s chances of lifting more silverware.
