Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson has written in The Daily Record that the Celtic players should give their all in the Champions League matches this season.

Celtic have qualified for the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition this season after two years.

The Scottish Premiership giants have been drawn against Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach in Group C.

It will be hard for the Bhoys to get out of the group, but the players and the fans are certainly going to enjoy the matches.

Ferguson has experience of playing in the Champions League with Glasgow giants Rangers.

The former Scotland international midfielder has suggested that the Celtic players should give their all in the games and should not worry about tiredness.

“Advice for Celtic players?” Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record. “They’re big boys but I always made sure I gave my all in these matches. I left nothing on the pitch.

“I was never sure if it would be my last game at that level because football is such a fickle business, fortunes can change in a second, through injury or a transfer to a club that won’t compete at that level.

“Tiredness? I’ll concede to a little mental fatigue on occasions after such big matches, but players can’t allow their standards to drop for domestic games.

“Madrid and Munich may be the best places to play football but it’s beating Partick Thistle at Firhill that gets you to those places.”

Celtic have some very good players, such as defender Kolo Toure and striker Leigh Griffiths, but it will be very hard for the Hoops to progress to the last 16 of the Champions League this season.

Barcelona and City are favourites to progress from Group C, and it will come as a massive surprise if either of them fail to go through to the knockout stages.
