Celtic suffered a damaging defeat to Livingston in the Scottish Premiership over the weekend.
Barry Ferguson has defended Ryan Christie following his sending off for Celtic during their 2-0 defeat to Livingston on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership.
Christie was shown a straight red for his high challenge on Scott Robinson in the first half, with Ferguson defending the player by stating that he didn’t intend to hurt the Livi player and it was an out-of-character moment from him.
At that time, the game was goalless, but Robinson would go on to open the scoring straight after the restart before Lyndon Dykes made sure of the points late in the second period.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Ferguson believes that Christie has been Neil Lennon’s ‘best player’ this season as he defended his challenge from the weekend.
“It was a red card,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer. “It’s not like Ryan Christie. He’s been late. I don’t think he went in to try and hurt the player.
“But it was a clear red card and that affected Celtic, there was no doubt about that because for me, Ryan Christie has been Celtic’s best player this season.”
Despite the plethora of experience in their side, Celtic didn’t react well to going down to 10 men, as Livingston’s physicality caused them numerous problems.
They deserved the two goals they scored and the three points they secured on the day, as Lennon’s side have suffered a mini setback heading into the international break.
But only eight games have been played in the Premiership and after the international break, Lennon will be hoping Celtic can respond in a positive fashion when they take on Ross County.
