Chelsea legend Frank Lampard was appointed as the Derby manager in the summer of 2018, and the former England international midfielder guided the Rams to the Championship playoff final last season.
Lampard has now been appointed the Chelsea manager, and former Rangers midfielder Ferguson believes that Ibrox fans will be worried that there will come a time when Gerrard leaves the Gers for his beloved Liverpool.
Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record: “Watching Frank Lampard’s unveiling at Chelsea the other day will have sent a chill down the spine of the Rangers support.
“Let’s be honest, we’ve all known from day one that Steven Gerrard hopes to go back to his own spiritual home at Anfield the way Lampard has returned to Stamford Bridge.
“But I just hope he has to wait an awful lot longer than his old England team-mate. And the good news is if his dream is to manage Liverpool one day first he’s going to have to take Rangers back to the top of Scottish football.”

Title challenge
Rangers did give Celtic a run for their money during the first half of last season, and the Gers will be hoping to maintain their title challenge for the entire campaign in 2019-20.
