Barry Ferguson suggested on PLZ Soccer that Jake Hastie should not have joined Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers in the summer transfer window.

Hastie moved to Rangers in the summer transfer window on a free, having agreed a pre-contract with the Gers back in January 2019 when he was at Motherwell.

The 20-year-old winger has struggled for playing time at Rangers so far this season, although the Scotland Under-21 international did come on as a substitute against East Fife in the Scottish League Cup in the 79th minute.

Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson has shared his worries about Hastie, and has suggested that the youngster made a mistake in joining the Gers.

Speaking ahead of the game at the weekend, Ferguson said on PLZ Soccer: “Hastie is a player that I think has a bright future. There’s no doubt in my mind that he has got ability.

“He had a great four or five months at Motherwell. He took the chance to go to Rangers, which is going to earn him a lot of money, and fair play to the boy.

“He has not been anywhere the Rangers 18, and that’s a worry for me because this kid could be a future Scotland player.”

Going out on loan

Hastie is a very good winger, but there is a lot of competition for a place in the Rangers starting lineup this season.

It will make sense for the youngster to move to another club in the Scottish Premiership on a loan deal so that he can play regularly and
