Joe Worrall of Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers had a shocker this week.
Barry Ferguson has told The Record that Joe Worrall’s panic spread through the Rangers team like a ‘contagious disease’ on Wednesday night.
Rangers’ Premiership title hopes suffered a bit of a dent after losing 2-1 at Kilmarnock.
Steven Gerrard’s side, who are now three points behind top-of-the-table Celtic, took a 12th-minute lead through debutant Jermain Defoe, but Eamon Brophy levelled for Killie soon after.
The goal had an element of farce about it from a Gers perspective, with centre-back Worrall making a horrendous error in the lead up to the goal.
Worrall, on loan from Nottingham Forest, has been slammed by pundits and Rangers fans for the mistake, and here is Ferguson’s take:
“It was as if Worrall got a serious dose of the jitters and it spread through the team like a contagious disease until it was full-blown panic,” he told The Record.
“He’ll still be kicking himself today for not launching the ball into a corner. It might not have looked pretty but it would have killed the danger. Most annoying of all, up until that moment I had been loving the performance. It was fast, intense and everything Gerrard would have been hoping for after the win over Celtic at Ibrox.
“Worrall’s brain freeze gave Killie all the encouragement they needed and it turned the whole game on its head.”
Jordan Jones, who signed a pre-contract agreement with the Ibrox club earlier this month, wound up scoring the winner for Kilmarnock, adding insult to injury for Gerrard.
The Blues face Livingston tomorrow and it’ll be interesting to see if the 38-year-old manager brings back Nikola Katic for Worrall or Gareth McAuley, who didn’t have a stellar game either.
