Rangers are likely to be busy this summer and Scott Arfield is reportedly close to signing at Ibrox.
Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has told STV that Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield would be a good signing at Ibrox as the club reportedly close in on a deal to land the midfielder.
Sky Sports claim Rangers are nearing a deal that will see 12-time Canada international Arfield move north of the border, eight years after leaving Falkirk to join Huddersfield.
Arfield’s contract at Turf Moor is set to expire at the end of the season and that has allowed Rangers to approach Arfield on a pre-contract agreement, sparing Rangers a transfer fee.
Former captain Ferguson believes Arfield is the kind of player Rangers need to sign, and believes the versatile Arfield has not looked out of place in England’s top tier.
“Scott Arfield is a player that I rate very highly,” Ferguson said. “He went down there with Burnley and he’s had a fantastic time down there. He’s played at the highest level in the Premier League and not looked out of place.
“These are the sort of guys that Rangers should be aiming to sign.”
Arfield has huge Scottish Premiership experience from his time at Falkirk, clocking up 108 top-tier outings during his time north of the border and scoring 13 goals.
He looks set to be the Gers first summer signing, while it has been widely reported that a move for veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor to return to Ibrox is also in the works.
