Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in handing Steven Davis the chance to return to Ibrox in January.

The Scottish Sun recently reported that the Southampton midfielder has been given the green light to leave the club in January ahead of his contract expiring in the summer. And Rangers is thought to be his likely destination.
It is more than six years since Davis left Ibrox following their demotion out of the top flight. He has been a superb servant for the Saints, but has struggled for game-time this season.
Nevertheless, former teammate Ferguson is adamant that Rangers would be pulling off a fantastic piece of business by getting a deal for Davis done when the January window opens.

“The guy just oozes quality. And you’ve seen since he left Rangers, he’s been in the Premier League a number of years, he’s playing at the top level, he’s shown his quality. I know he’s been out of the team this season but he is a player that would make a huge, huge difference to Rangers,” he told PLZ Soccer.
With Ovie Ejaria’s loan now over, Rangers do appear to need further depth in the middle of the park. Apart from Ryan Jack, their midfield struggled to produce any kind of quality in Thursday’s defeat to Rapid Vienna with Lassana Coulibaly, in particular, really going off the boil after a superb start to the season.

Davis’ experience, particularly at Ibrox, will be hugely beneficial. If any signing is going to be able to hit the ground running as soon as he arrives, it may well be the Northern Ireland international.
And that could be fantastic news for the Gers if a title race is going to be on the cards this season.
