Barry Ferguson has predicted in The Daily Record that Andy Halliday will be a success for Rangers now that he is back at Ibrox.

Halliday has returned to Rangers from his loan spell at Azerbaijani club Gabala and will be part of Graeme Murty’s side for the second half of the season.

The 26-year-old midfielder joined Gabala on loan from the Gers in the summer of 2017 and was expected to remain at the Azerbaijani club until the summer of 2018.

Murty, who will remain in charge of the Gers until the end of the season, has decided to recall Halliday from his loan spell.

The former Livingston and Middlesbrough midfielder joined Rangers in the summer of 2015, but the Scotsman failed to impress then-manager Pedro Caixinha in the final weeks of last season and was sent out loan in the summer of 2017.

Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson, who had two different spells at Ibrox, has backed Halliday to turn on the style for the Scottish Premiership side in the second half of the season.

Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record: “I’ll stick my neck out by betting my bottom dollar Andy will go on from here to be a success at Ibrox.

“And I can say that with confidence because not only is he a good football player but I also know what it means to him to wear that shirt.

“Trust me, he’ll make the most of this opportunity because he’ll be more determined and motivated than ever not to let it pass him by. If that means putting in extra hours on the training ground that’s exactly what he’ll do.

“At the age of 26 his best years at Rangers are ahead of him and I’m sure working with the right manager will bring the best out of him.”
