Alfredo Morelos picked up another red card for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers this week.
Barry Ferguson has admitted to The Record he has reached the conclusion that fiery Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos cannot be changed – but insisted that was a good thing.
Morelos is set for a three-match ban after picking up a red card in Wednesday’s 4-2 win at Aberdeen.
But the volatile also netted two goals prior to his first-half dismissal for kicking out at Scott McKenna, who was also sent off for his offence against the Colombian.
One of the pre-match subplots centered around Morelos’s individual battle with McKenna, with the Rangers marksman also given his marching orders for clashing with the Scottish defender in December.
Despite a questionable temperament, the 22-year-old is arguably the best player in Scotland this season and has 21 goals in all competitions to prove it.
And Gers legend Ferguson, prone to the red mist himself during his playing days, says that although he feels Morelos is beyond help, changing him could be detrimental for his game.
He told The Record: “After watching him getting sent off at Pittodrie, I’ve have reached the conclusion that it [putting an arm around him] would be a waste of time. More than that, I’ve realised no amount of advice or good intentions will ever change him.
“And best of all, that Rangers will be all the better for it because this player is worth every bit of trouble he causes.
“I wouldn’t try to change a thing about him because it’s that nasty, volatile streak which is bringing out the best in him and taking his game to a new level. So much so that on Wednesday he was unplayable. When you see a guy performing like that, then you sit back and let him do things his own way.”
Consequence of his ban, Morelos, a £1 million signing from HJK Helsinki in 2017 [The Scottish Sun], will sit out this evening’s Scottish Cup clash with Aberdeen, along with Premiership games against St Johnstone and Hamilton.
