Leeds United have snapped up Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Barry Douglas.
Leeds United new boy Barry Douglas has taken to Twitter to send messages to Whites fans, and supporters of Wolverhampton Wanderers after leaving Molineux for Elland Road.
Leeds had tied up two loan signings in Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman before reports emerged on Wednesday that they were discussing a surprise deal for Wolves defender Barry Douglas.
Douglas, 28, joined Wolves from Turkish side Konyaspor last summer in a bargain move, and he played a key role in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side with five goals and 14 assists in the Championship.
The Scot was hugely important as Wolves won the Championship title, but the left wing back has now been moved on, with Atletico Madrid full back Jonny brought in as his successor.
Douglas has dropped back into the Championship with Leeds, penning a three-year deal after the clubs agreed a deal worth around £3million according to reports from Sky Sports.
Douglas is the first permanent signing of the Marcelo Bielsa era at Leeds, and the former Dundee United man took to Twitter on Saturday night to send messages to fans both old and new.
The left wing back sent a message to the Wolves fans explaining his exit, suggesting that he was told he wasn’t part of Wolves’ plan going forward, and the decision to leave was ultimately taken out of his hands, but he will look back fondly on a strong year at Molineux.
Douglas did though admit that with one negative in leaving Wolves has come a positive, as he gets to sign for Leeds United, and is hugely excited to be part of an ‘ambitious project’, adding that he hopes to have many years of success at Elland Road.
