Barry Douglas was watching on tonight as his Leeds United teammate, Kalvin Phillips, was in action for England.
The on-loan Blackburn defender wrote on his Instagram story ‘watching the main main’, as he accompanied the message with an image of him watching the game along with his young daughter.
England recorded a 2-1 win against Poland in their World Cup qualifier, with Phillips starting the game, alongside Declan Rice.
The Leeds man is starting to become a regular for his country and he will be hoping, during these coming years, he does become the ‘main man’ down the line.
His place in the starting XI isn’t solidified yet, but the combative natured midfielder could argue that he has booked his place in the squad for the Euros, at least.
Whilst Leeds and West Ham fans like to build a little rivalry between Phillips and Rice, it does seem as though the Hammers star is ahead of him if it came between picking the two.
Jordan Henderson is currently in the treatment room and if he can be fit for the Euros then he might just slot next to Rice in England’s midfield rather than the aptly dubbed ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’.
Either way, Phillips’ stock is rising, both on the international stage and on the domestic scene.
