Douglas made the surprise move to Leeds from Wolves this summer.
Barry Douglas has been quoted on Leeds United’s Twitter account during his pre-Norwich press conference that the language barrier between the players and Marcelo Bielsa is difficult.
The 28-year-old surprisingly joined Leeds this summer despite shining in a Wolverhampton Wanderers side that gained promotion as Champions from England’s second division last term.
But the signing of Jonny and Ruben Vinagre at Wolves this summer saw former Lech Poznan defender Douglas decide to move on, joining the Whites for a fee believed to be in the region of £5million.
Douglas has taken to life at Elland Road, making the left-back slot his own and becoming one of the first names on the team sheet. He spoke of Bielsa’s language barrier, and the Argentine manager’s intense training sessions.
“He’s been good with everyone,” Douglas said. “I think with the language barrier it’s quite difficult for man management but in regard to his training sessions, he’s very particular in his drills and attention to detail.
“It’s a process and all the guys are buying into it and I think you can see that in the way we’re playing.”
Bielsa’s desire to play a high tempo style of play has seen the former Lazio and Argentina manager look to raise the fitness levels of his side, by making the squad do double sessions throughout pre-season.
The players have responded, winning four and drawing one of their opening five league matches. They currently sit at the top of the Championship following Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw away at Swansea City.
They will be looking to consolidate their position at the top with a win over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday, and will be looking to take advantage of the Canaries poor start which has seen them win only one of their four league games.
