Leeds United star is close to a comeback.

Barry Douglas of Leeds United takes a throw in during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Bristol City at Elland Road on November 24, 2018 in Leeds, England.

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa confirmed yesterday that Barry Douglas is in line to make his return for the under-23s, via Leeds Live.

If he comes through tonight’s game without any fitness issues, he will be considered for first team action in upcoming Championship games with QPR and West Bromwich Albion.

Douglas was hailed when he signed for Leeds as a game changer, and rightly so. Last season for Wolves he scored five goals and provided 14 assists.

This season for Leeds he is yet to find the target, and has four assists.

So Leeds fans have been left feeling slightly shortchanged, especially as his fill in Ezgjan Alioski provided two assists in the club’s recent win over Swansea City.

It would be wrong to suddenly under-estimate Douglas.

At this crucial stage of the season, Leeds need players of Douglas’ quality and experience.

Douglas is a proven winner, having helped Wolves clinch promotion to the Premier League.

Having him in the dressing room and on the pitch will be invaluable to the Whites as they reach the business end of the season.

If he can lift his game near to the levels he showed last season, with fresh legs and a point to prove, he could become Leeds’ most important player over the coming weeks.
