Douglas is rated 75 on FIFA 19, and is joint second with a Leeds playmaker.
Barry Douglas answered Pontus Jansson when asked by Leeds United’s official website who he felt had the club’s best FIFA rating, and the left-back was correct.
Jansson, 27, has been in excellent form since returning from the World Cup in Russia with Sweden, producing a rock-solid performance against Sheffield United on Saturday to keep the Blades at bay.
He is the only fit centre-back with proper first-team experience at the moment, after captain Liam Cooper underwent surgery to correct a knee injury this week. He joins Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi in the treatment room.
Douglas was asked who he thought Leeds’ three best-rated FIFA players were by former Whites defender Ben Parker, and he answered Jansson in first place, Samu Saiz in second and Adam Forshaw in third – but he was wrong.
“I’m going to say Pontus, as number one,” Douglas said. “Samu Saiz in second, and I think Adam [Forshaw] in third because he’ll have good ratings.”
Jansson was indeed the club’s highest-rated player with 76, while Douglas himself is rated at a slightly better 75 than Saiz, who make up the top three. Arguably Leeds best player this season, Pablo Hernandez, is just 73.
Douglas and Jansson are set to combine on Saturday in a makeshift defence that is also likely to include Aapo Halme and Jamie Shackleton, after injuries to Cooper and Stuart Dallas.
The Whites face Steve McClaren’s QPR and a fourth consecutive win could see them return to the top of the table, but only if Norwich City drop points at home to Bolton Wanderers.
