Leeds United defender Barry Douglas has told LUTV that winger Jack Harrison is ‘gutted’ after failing from the penalty spot against Stoke City.

The Whites beat Stoke 3-0 in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, but a rotated side had a little more trouble with the Potters on Tuesday night.

Stoke struck twice before half time as Danny Batth and Sam Vokes both struck from crosses to put Nathan Jones’ side 2-0 up, prompting Marcelo Bielsa into three half-time changes.

Eddie Nketiah pounced for his third goal in a Leeds shirt by capitalising on a shocking Jack Butland error, and Helder Costa took the game to penalties with a late header.

Butland put his poor goalkeeping form behind him to score in the shoot-out, and when Harrison hit the post with his effort, Leeds were knocked out.

Hopefully, Harrison’s confidence won’t be shot too heavily by his penalty misfire, and teammate Douglas has commented on the situation.

Douglas admitted that Harrison was ‘a bit gutted’ in the changing room after the game, but offers him words of confidence by suggesting he has been ‘on fire’ lately and had fans on the edge of their seats against Stoke.

The Scot urged him to get back to doing what he does best in terrorising defenders this weekend, putting his penalty miss down to a learning curve whilst backing him to step up from the spot again in the future.

“Jack’s a bit gutted, but you look at how he’s been all season, he’s started on fire,” said Douglas. “Even today, when eh came on, he’s got everyone on the edge of their seats. It’s part and parcel of football, it’s a learning curve for him. I’m sure it won’t be the last penalty that he’ll hit, so he just needs to forget about it now and concentrate on Saturday and back to doing what he’s doing and terrorising defences,” he added.
