Sheffield Wednesday have endured a disappointing season in the Championship.
Wednesday have endured a disappointing 2017-18 campaign and are set to finish outside of the Championship playoffs.
Players such as Bannan, Fernando Forestieri, Kieran Lee, Sam Hutchinson, Gary Hooper, Tom Lees and Keiren Westwood all have suffered long-term injuries this season.
The 28-year-old former Aston Villa and Crystal Palace star has suggested that injuries have played a key role in Wednesday’s disappointing campaign of 2017-18.
Bannan, who is a very popular figure among the Hillsborough Stadium faithful, has also stated that Wednesday will launch a challenge for the Championship playoffs next season.
“I think if we didn’t get as much injuries this season as we did then we would have been right up there challenging,” Bannan told The Star.
“Even when the gaffer went when he went we weren’t totally out of the running but the injures came at bad times and I’m pretty confident that without the injuries we would have been there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
“But if we can keep everyone for next season and build on it again I don’t see why we can’t go again and build on it.”
Understandable
Wednesday have a very good squad, but injuries have severely affected them this season.
The Owls, though, will be expected to launch a challenge for the playoffs next season, and if they keep hold of their best players and bring in some quality footballers in the summer transfer window, then they could even fight for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
