Criticised by some Sheffield Wednesday fans three weeks ago, it appears as though Owls midfielder Barry Bannan has them firmly back onside despite Tuesday night’s draw at home to Burton Albion.

Bannan, who has only missed two of Wednesday’s 36 Championship fixtures this season, will perhaps admit he was not at his best last month, but since being left out of Carlos Carvalhal’s starting lineup against Leeds United 11 days ago, the Scotland international is looking more like his old self again.

After helping Wednesday to their biggest win of the season against Norwich City on Saturday, Bannan tried his utmost to help the Owls overcome lowly Burton at Hillsborough, a game which ended 1-1 despite the hosts’ domination.

The 26-year-old made a total of 51 final-third passes against the Brewers – a league high this season – but his teammates failed to capitalise, with the visitors defending resolutely to their credit.

Afterwards, Bannan praised Burton’s performance on Twitter, and was greeted with a warm response from the Wednesday faithful – including The Human League musician, Martyn Ware.
