Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has told The Star that Steve Bruce will be good for Aston Villa.

Bruce was appointed the Villa manager in October following the departure of Roberto Di Matteo due to a run of disappointing results.

When the former Hull City manager arrived at Villa Park, the Villans were in danger of getting relegated to League One at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

Things have improved since October, but it is very unlikely that Villa would be able to end up in the top six of the Championship this season.

Bruce is a very good manager and has a strong record of getting promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

Wednesday midfielder Bannan, who was on the books of Villa from 2004 until 2013, has praised Bruce, and believes that the Villans will be successful again.

“I think they would have liked to have done a bit better but there’s been a lot of changes at Villa,” Bannan told The Star. “It is a massive club and a great club as well.

“But they have got a bit of stability with Steve Bruce and he has proved his pedigree in this league before and I think given time, they will be a successful club again. He proved himself at Hull and I think he will be very good for Aston Villa.”

Wednesday will face Villa away from home at Villa Park in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls are sixth in the league table at the moment with 62 points from 36 matches.

Speaking ahead of the match, Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal shared his opinion on Villa.
