Bannan has signed a new three-year contract at Sheffield Wednesday.

Barry Bannan has claimed it would have been hard to walk away from Sheffield Wednesday’s ‘unbelievable’ supporters.
The Owls midfielder signed a new three-year contract on Wednesday, allaying fears he could leave on either a cut-price or free transfer deal within the next 11 months.
And Bannan, who began his career at Aston Villa before moving on to Crystal Palace, has told the club’s official Youtube channel that he has never had as close an affinity with any group of fans as he has with Wednesday’s.
“No I’ve never [been] this close with supporters,” he said. “I think for me personally they’ve been unbelievable since I came here, they took to me straight away. And that plays a big part.
“Some people might say it doesn’t but when you’ve got that support behind you and you know how much they love you it’s hard to walk way.
“It’s been brilliant since I came here and they’ve been great this season as well. So it’s good for me to show commitment by signing for another three years.”

Bannan signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer at the start of the 2015-16 season in which he established himself as a key player immediately, as the Owls reached the Championship play-off final.
The 27-year-old came within a penalty shoot-out of another Wembley appearance 12 months later, but was sorely missed last season as Wednesday slumped to 15th place due, in part, to Bannan’s four-month absence.
Middlesbrough and Birmingham City were among the clubs credited with interest in the Scotland international, who has enjoyed a strong start to the new season, earlier this summer.
