Newcastle United are hoping to sign one of Modou Barrow and Andros Townsend.
Newcastle United are pursuing a deal for one of two wingers, according to Sky Sports; Swansea City’s Modou Barrow and Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend.
The Magpies sit top of the Championship table right now, and whilst they could be back down in second place by the end of the night should Brighton and Hove Albion beat Cardiff City, promotion should be on the cards for Rafael Benitez’s side.

Benitez is still looking to add to his squad before next Tuesday’s transfer deadline though, with a winger believed to be top of his list of priorities as we head into the final week of the January transfer window.
Sky Sports report that Newcastle want to re-sign winger Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace, but with that deal proving difficult to pull off, they’ve also looked at a possible deal to bring Swansea City’s Modou Barrow to Tyneside.
Townsend enjoyed a fine spell with Newcastle in the second half of last season, but after the Magpies were relegated to the Championship, he was sold on to Crystal Palace, where he has struggled to make an impact.

Newcastle are unsurprisingly keen to offer him a swift return to St. James’ Park, but Benitez’s hopes of a reunion with the winger are dwindling – meaning Newcastle are now pursuing a deal for Barrow.
The Gambian wide man has flashed quality for Swansea this season with two assists to his name, and his blistering pace could be valuable for Newcastle, with a loan deal until the end of the season possibly in the pipeline.
With one of the wingers hopefully heading to the North East, Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to discuss which player they would rather see Newcastle sign before next week’s transfer deadline.
Many fans feel that Barrow is a huge downgrade on Townsend, and would rather see the England international return to St. James’ Park rather than Barrow, and would like to see the Magpies pay more money to land Townsend – a better long-term option – than settle for Barrow.
However, others think that Barrow would be a good loan signing for Newcastle, enabling the Magpies to save their money for a big summer signing, whilst some simply don’t want Townsend back after he left the club just six months ago.
