Former Glasgow Rangers winger Barrie McKay was popular among the Ibrox faithful.
Barrie McKay has admitted to The Scottish Sun that he would ‘jump’ at the chance to re-sign for Rangers at some point down the line.
The 24-year-old was sold to Nottingham Forest 18 months ago during Pedro Caixinha’s spell at Rangers.
It was a questionable call by the former Gers manager, with the Scotland international netting five goals and setting up seven in 22 Championship starts for the Reds last term.
McKay struggled for regular football for much of the campaign, before joining Swansea last summer.
And although the Scottish winger says that he’d love to rejoin his boyhood club eventually, he is content with life in South Wales for now.
He told The Scottish Sun: “I have always said I would like to go back. If the opportunity ever came further down the line I would jump at it.
“You could say there is unfinished business.
“It is a huge club and it was an honour and a privilege to play for them. But for the moment I’m probably the most content and settled I’ve ever been at Swansea.”
McKay, who made his Rangers debut in 2012, joined the Welsh outfit for £1.5 million [Nottingham Post] and that looks a bit of a bargain.
He isn’t ripping it up at The Liberty Stadium, but he has scored once and bagged four assists in 13 Championship starts, which isn’t a bad return.
The one-time Scot international might want another crack at the whip at Ibrox eventually, but it won’t be for a while. Hypothetically, he would have Jamie Murphy, Glenn Middleton Eros Grezda and potentially loanee Ryan Kent to compete with for the left-wing role in Steven Gerrard’s first XI if he joined this summer, for example.
It’s very stiff competition and only serves to underline that Gerrard probably won’t be ringing McKay any time soon.
