Rangers winger Barrie McKay made his debut for Scotland at the weekend.
Rangers winger Barrie McKay has revealed to The Glasgow Evening Times what Scotland head coach Gordon Strachan told him before his debut for the national team.
McKay made his debut for the Scotland national team against France in a friendly international in Metz at the weekend.
The 21-year-old winger, who was in brilliant form for Rangers in the Scottish Championship this past season, came on as a substitute in the 84th minute of the game on Saturday evening.
The youngster has revealed the advice he was given by Scotland head coach Strachan before his debut.
“The manager just told me to go out and enjoy it and try to get involved as much as I could,” McKay told The Glasgow Evening Times. “That was it really. He just said to go on and enjoy the occasion.”
McKay is a very talented and promising young player, and earning a cap for Scotland is only going to be good for his development as a footballer and for his confidence.
The winger was one of the best players for Rangers this past season, and he will be determined to maintain his form for the Gers during the 2016-17 campaign.
It will be interesting to see how the 21-year-old copes with the level of football in the Scottish Premiership next season.
