Rangers were beaten 2-1 by fierce rivals Aberdeen on Sunday.

Rangers star Barrie McKay has told the club’s official website that there were positives to take from the weekend loss to Aberdeen.

The Gers travelled to Pittodrie on Sunday looking to get back to winning ways after a difficult start to the season.

It proved to be another frustrating afternoon for them, though, as a superb last-minute free-kick from James Maddison saw Rangers fall to a 2-1 defeat.

It was their second defeat of the season and saw them slip to seventh in the table as a result, seven points behind leaders Celtic.

Despite that, McKay insists that there were plenty of positives for him and his teammates to take from the disheartening defeat.

“I think the positive we can take is that we went up to Pittodrie and dominated the game,” he told the club’s official website.

“I think in the first half we were disappointed to go in at 0-0 and should have been two or three-up.”

The winger has also admitted that Rangers are struggling with the step up in quality this season.

Much was made ahead of the season about Mark Warburton’s side challenging for the title after dominating the Championship last year.

So far they have struggled with the step up, though, picking up just two wins from their first nine games.

It has been disappointing for them, but McKay believes they are starting to settle into a rhythm that will see them start picking up points.

“It’s obviously a step-up in level, and the teams we have played so far have set up in a similar way to what they did last season in the Championship wherein they sit-in and look to counter on us,” he added.

“Maybe we have been a bit slow to start, but we are starting to get into a really good rhythm now and once the first win comes things will start picking up.”
