Barrie McKay has seemingly put a major question mark on his Ibrox future by rejecting Glasgow Rangers’ contract offer.

A recent report in the Daily Mail suggested that Rangers star Barrie McKay had plunged his Ibrox future into some doubt by rejecting a contract offer from the club.

The Mail reports that the two-year offer would have seen the winger earn a pay rise on his current deal which is set to expire at the end of next season.

If his decision to reject a new deal is a sign that he wants to leave the Gers, then he is surely making a mistake as his form this season has arguably done little to suggest that a bigger move can be secured.

After McKay really emerged onto the scene last season, it would not have been a surprise if one of the best in the English Championship, or perhaps even a Premier League club decided to take a chance on the wide-man.

Unfortunately, this season has been much more of a struggle for the 22-year-old, as it has for most of the team, and it would now hardly be a surprise if any club potentially interested in a deal has taken a step back due to McKay’s inconsistency.

On his day, the winger can be game-changing and it seems that there is no limit to what he could be capable of. However, Rangers fans have only been treated to those performances on a handful of occasions this term.

He may still be the subject of bids from high-profile clubs this summer, but it is difficult to imagine any team, which would represent a step-up from where Rangers are currently, being willing to use McKay as anything more than a wildcard who can be brought on in the latter stages to try and make something happen based on what he has shown this season.

With that in mind, it seems that staying at Rangers for, at least, a few more years represents the best way for McKay to realise his full potential as he enjoys regular game-time and is part of a team that should be expecting to challenge for numerous trophies, and thus, signing a new deal is surely the wise option.
