Could Leeds United make a fresh approach for the Barnsley striker in January?
10 months ago, he was one of Leeds United’s primary targets, but Barnsley refused to budge on their £1 million asking price for Sam Winnall, leaving the Whites empty handed.
Now, one Football League Trophy, a play-off final victory and 13 goals later, Winnall is facing an uncertain future at Oakwell.

Despite finding the net four times in 12 starts this season, the 25-year-old is yet to extend his stay in South Yorkshire beyond the end of the current campaign – and his circumstances could play nicely into Leeds’ hands.
Of course, the Whites have changed managers since their initial pursuit of Winnall, while the current incumbent, Garry Monk, added a striker of his own during the summer transfer window.
However, Marcus Antonsson’s tally so far would suggest he’s perhaps not the regular goalscorer the Whites were expecting, leaving Chris Wood to shoulder most of the burden up front.

It would be a surprise if Leeds, in the promising position they are in, do not seek to bolster their attacking options in the winter transfer window and someone like Winnall could be ideal.
Not only does he know where the goal is, he’s a good age and, as he is likely to cost less than the asking price Leeds were quoted in January, is perhaps one of the best-value Championship strikers out there.
Though Winnall is not a player who obviously improves Monk’s team, he would certainly be a useful option to have.
And besides, at that price, if it doesn’t work out, Leeds could perhaps sell him on at a profit.
