Barnsley defender Angus MacDonald has explained why Tottenham Hotspur’s new £12 million striker struggled to make an impact against the Championship side.
Fernando Llorente – also a World Cup winner – was making his first Tottenham start since his arrival from Swansea City on deadline day, but lasted only 67 minutes at Wembley on Tuesday.

Shortly before then Spurs made their breakthrough through Dele Alli, whose goal was enough to settle the tie in the home side’s favour.
When asked about his tussle with Llorente afterwards, MacDonald – who moved to Barnsley from non-league football as recently as 13 months ago – told BBC Radio Sheffield: “I’ll let him out of my pocket later!”
Despite sitting 20th in the Championship, Barnsley gave a strong Tottenham side a run for its money in the capital, and could have gone ahead twice through Liam Lindsay and Ike Ugbo.

But Spurs’ quality told in the end, with Alli sweeping home from close range after good work from Kieran Trippier down the right.
The draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup is due to take place after Wednesday night’s round of matches.
