The Everton midfielder could leave permanently this month.

While much of the focus at Everton during this transfer window is on potential signings, there could be some departures from Goodison Park before the end of the month.

One player who could leave is Joe Williams, with Barnsley wanting to sign the talented young midfielder on a permanent deal for £1 million, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Williams, a product of Everton’s academy, has made just one competitive first-team appearance for The Toffees, which came against Krasnodar in the Europa League in 2014.

This season Williams has been hugely impressive while on loan at Barnsley, and has featured regularly in the Championship.

Making the grade at Everton in the long term is a difficult task for Williams and he may feel that it would be best for his career if he was to join Barnsley permanently now, but his parent club have a difficult decision to make over his future.

Williams has reached the stage in his development where he needs to play regularly and if he was to return to Everton next season he would most probably not be afforded sufficient opportunities, which suggests that the club should now let him leave.
