Sheffield Wednesday’s Sam Winnall celebrates
Barnsley are still not over Sam Winnall’s transfer to Sheffield Wednesday, it seems.
Winnall quit the Tykes for their South Yorkshire rivals in January, having scored 11 times in his old side’s first half-season back in the Championship.
The 26-year-old’s goals during Barnsley’s promotion campaign had made him a hero at Oakwell, but his decision to sign for the Owls in a triple-your-money deal left his reputation in tatters.
Boos and missiles (albeit cuddly, porcine ones) greeted Winnall on his return to Barnsley with Wednesday at the start of the month, and fittingly it was he who scored his side’s goal in a 1-1 draw.
Perhaps understandably, the resulting celebration was somewhat emphatic, which only added to the ill-feeling on the part of the Tykes.
And more than two weeks on Barnsley are seemingly refusing to let it die, having declined to name Winnall in their official matchday programme’s report of this month’s derby meeting, referring to him instead as ‘A Footballer’.
Here’s how the Wednesday supporters reacted to the revelation on social media:
